Operational Advisory – Port Congestion and Potential Labor Disruption in Los Angeles/Long Beach

Please be advised that the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are currently experiencing significant rail congestion. As of October 26, approximately 35,700 import containers were awaiting on-dock rail service, increasing the likelihood of delays for inland rail shipments.

Compounding these challenges, approximately 250 ILWU Local 26 watchmen have authorized potential strike action beginning as early as 5:00 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, November 1. Negotiations are ongoing, and no strike has been initiated at this time.

Although the labor dispute involves a relatively small group of workers, the potential impact could be substantial if other ILWU members honor Local 26 picket lines. According to the Pacific Maritime Association, such action could disrupt vessel operations, container yard activities, and truck-gate operations at affected terminals.
