50% Tariffs for Steel and Aluminum Imports Take Effect 12:01 a.m. ET June 4

President Trump issued a proclamation this evening ensuring that tariffs on aluminum and steel imports will increase from 25% ad valorem to 50% ad valorem, effective 12:01 a.m. ET on June 4.

U.K. steel and aluminum imports, however, will remain at the 25% tariff rate through July 9 at which time the Commerce Secretary may adjust the applicable rates of duty, even increasing the duty to 50% if he determines that the U.K. has not complied with relevant aspects of the U.S.-U.K. Economic Prosperity Deal (EPD) of May 8, 2025.
